(C) Meeting with Hamza Khelif of the MFA Directorate for
Security and Disarmament October 6, Pol-Econ Chief drew from
reftel points to outline the course and results of the
October 1 P5 plus One Talks with Iran in Geneva. He urged
Algeria to use its influence to convince Iran to follow
through on its commitments made there. Indicating he was
mildly optimistic about the Geneva results, Khelif said he
would inform his superiors in the MFA. Algeria's position
would continue to be that Iran must establish transparency in
its nuclear program in order to reassure concerned countries,
and also that the right to peaceful use of nuclear energy
must be preserved.
