SUBJECT: ALGERIA CHANGES WEEKEND TO FRIDAY-SATURDAY
1. Effective August 14, 2009, the weekend in Algeria will change to
Friday and Saturday instead of Thursday and Friday.
2. The Algerian Council of Ministers endorsed on July 21, 2009, a
draft law to this effect put forth by the Minister of Labor. The law
dictates the weekend change in all economic, industrial,
administrative, and services institutions, as well as in banks and
ports.
3. To adjust to the new weekend schedule, the Embassy will be closed
on Thursday, August 13, and begin implementing the new weekend
schedule effective Friday, August 14. The Embassy will re-open for
business on Sunday, August 16.
