The Ambassador delivered reftel demarche to MFA Director
General Fatiha Selmane on March 5 and asked for Algerian
support for the U.S. candidacy for the UN Human Rights
Council. The Ambassador stressed tthe U.S. commitment to
human rights and principled diplomacy, and Selmane said she
would promptly pass the demarche to her colleague at the
General Directorate for Political Affairs and International
Security. Separately, USA desk officer Ali Drouiche told us
the MFA was "pleased" with what it perceived to be the Obama
Administration's renewed emphasis on human rights.
