6.3 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE STRIKES OFF TAIWAN'S EAST

(U) On July 13, a total of four earthquakes were recorded overnight off the east coast of Taiwan. The largest occurred at 2:05 AM, located 57 kilometers east of Hualian city. It registered a magnitude of 6.3. The three smaller quakes ranged in magnitude from 3.9 to 5.1 and were located between 19 and 48 km outside of Yilan City. Tremors and swaying were felt over 100 kilometers away in Taipei. ¶2. (U) ESTH officer made inquiries at the National Rescue and Command Center, which has a 24-hour English-speaking hotline for disaster reports and questions, and at the Ministry of Interior's National Fire Agency (NFA),which is assigned with disaster relief. Both agencies reported no injuries, deaths, or significant damage. The NFA stated there are no "disaster conditions" as a result of these earthquakes. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
