(S) On December 4, AIT EXBS Advisor Mi-Yong Kim delivered
reftel to Ministry of Economic Affair's Bureau of Foreign
Trade (BOFT) SHTC Export Control and C.O. Task Force Chief
Feng Tze-Ling. EXBS Advisor reminded Feng that AIT delivered
numerous non-papers on Roundtop's activities, and that it
appears Roundtop continues to flout Taiwan's nonproliferation
efforts. EXBS Advisor asked BOFT to give utmost attention to
the transaction outlined in the non-paper, and to the overall
trade activities of Roundtop. Feng thanked AIT for the
information, and said he understood the seriousness of the
matter. Feng said he would immediately investigate the
matter and reply to AIT as soon as possible. We will relay
BOFT's response as soon as we receive it.
