1. (U) Embassy Accra recommends the Department send the
following congratulatory message to Ghana's President-elect
John Evans Atta-Mills:
Please accept our nation's heartfelt congratulations on your
victory in Ghana's recent presidential elections. You and
your team deserve credit for a strong campaign that resulted
in a majority of Ghana's voters entrusting you and the
National Democratic Congress to lead the country for the next
four years. We wish you success in carying out your
commitment to be a President for all Ghanaians. We hope that
you will be able to enhance Ghana's strong democratic
traditions as you work to unify the nation and build
consensus and confidence in established institutions that
will serve all the people of Ghana.
We also commend the Electoral Commission for its excellent
work and professionalism in assuring an election that has
been deemed free, fair, and transparent Finally, we
congratulate the Ghanaian people for their commitment to
democracy and their forebearance during the protracted
electoral process. This truly is a fine day for Ghanaian
