1. (C) POLOFF delivered reftel demarche October 8 to Mrs
Beatrice Brobbey, Director, International Organizations and
Multilateral Bureau at the Ghana MFA, briefing Brobbey on the
October 1 P5 1 talks, and asking Ghana to press Iran to
fulfill the commitments it made in Geneva. We also urged
Ghana to support the U.S. position, both publicly and
privately.
2. (C) Brobbey said that the MFA will pass to the GOG
delegation at the IAEA USG request for support for P5 1
objectives. Brobbey also stated that the international
community has been waiting for Iran to agree to allow
inspectors unfettered access to potential nuclear sites, and
Ghana is hopeful that the outcome of the Geneva talks is a
breakthrough in Iran's relations with the west.
