1. (C) On April 17, Poloff delivered reftel demarches and a
copy of the United States Human Rights Commitments and
Pledges to Ambassador M.K. Ibrahim, Deputy Director of the
International Organizations Department in the Second United
Nations Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ibrahim
expressed his delight over the U.S. decision to re-engage
with the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) and stated that
Nigeria would "absolutely support" U.S. candidacy.
Highlighting that Nigeria is also up for re-election to the
HRC this May, Ibrahim requested "reciprocity" and said that
support for their candidacy would be expected and
appreciated.
