(S/NF) Following up on a January 5 request (reftel) that the UAE
consider receiving two non-Emirati Guantanamo detainees, Minister of
State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Gargash told the Ambassador
January 18 that the UAEG had decided to decline the request. Gargash
offered no reason for the decision, even when pressed, but was firm
in relaying the UAEG's decision of "no."
