1. (C) Ref A requested updates on Post intentions with regards to
the new policy to invite Iranian diplomats to July 4 events. Embassy
Abu Dhabi held a "national day" event on February 17, 2009 -- with
the traditional focus on President's Day due to the extreme weather
conditions in the UAE during summer months. The new guidance had not
been received and no Iranians were invited.
2. (C) Post does not plan a diplomatic event for July 4. Our next
opportunity to consider the new guidance -- which we understand is
currently limited to large national day events -- will be at our next
such function in 2010.
