(SBU) On May 26, EconOff encouraged Ministry of Foreign Trade
Executive Director of Foreign Trade Juma Al Kait to support the
US-Japan-Korea-Taiwan joint proposal for increased export licensing
transparency. Al Kait said that he had not yet had time to review
the proposal, which the Japanese provided in a May 19 meeting. He
said the UAE would seek views on the proposal from GCC colleagues
before deciding to support. (Note: Japanese officials also reported
Al Kait offered no substantive response during their meeting. End
