1. (C) On April 19, DCM delivered reftel demarche urging the UAE to
support Kosovo's World Bank and IMF membership to UAE Central Bank
Governor Sultan Al Sowaidi. Al Sowaidi reiterated that the UAEG had
recognized Kosovo and that he did not foresee a problem in approving
WB/IMF membership for Kosovo. He said his staff would act on the
related paperwork "expeditiously." Later on April 19, UAE Central
Bank Strategy Unit Chief Ahmed Qamzi called DCM to confirm that the
Governor would approve Kosovo's membership as soon as the relevant
paperwork is received.
2. (C) DCM also demarched MFA Director of European and American
Affairs Abdel Hamid Kathem on April 15, who gave no substantive
response.
