UNCLAS ZAGREB 000244 SIPDIS SENSITIVE SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL MARR PGOV HR SUBJECT: CROATIAN GOVERNMENT APPROVES SUPPLEMENTAL SOFA (SBU) State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Bianca Matkovic contacted the Ambassador on March 11 to confirm that the GoC at its working session last week had formally approved the supplemental Status of Forces Agreement negotiated with the United States. North Americas director Betty Pavelich, in a subsequent phone call with the DCM, said the full package of documents with the signed government decision, would be forwarded to the Embassy on March 12, and double-tracked via the Croatian Embassy in Washington, DC. Pavelich added that the government decision explicitly named CDA Marijan Gubic at the Embassy in DC as authorized to sign the formal agreement on behalf of the GoC. Once Post has received the documents, we will forward them to the Department, and we look forward to consulting with Washington on the timing of the signing and any accompanying public announcement.
