SIPDIS IO/RHS REBECCA JOVIN, DRL/MLGA LYNN SICADE E.O. 12958: DECL: 09/03/2018 TAGS: PREL PHUM UNGA PL SUBJECT: UNGA THIRD COMMITTEE: POLAND STILL SUPPORTIVE REF: STATE 93981 Classified By: Political Counselor F. Daniel Sainz. Reason 1.4 (b and d) (C) As it has done in the past, Poland continues to support U.S. positions on resolutions for Burma, DPRK, and Iran. Polish MFA Deputy Director Miroslaw Luczka of the Department of United Nations Systems and Human Rights told Poloffs that Poland would support such resolutions, and shared U.S. opposition to the "No Action Motions" and the concept of "defamation of religions." On Sudan, Luczka expressed doubts about whether Poland will support a resolution, and said it depends almost entirely on the EU discussions in Brussels (which Luczka was to participate in on September 4). Similarly, Luczka said that Poland will likely support a resolution on Zimbabwe, but that it would also depend on the EU discussions. Luczka confirmed the MFA's continued interest in the planned DVC on UNGA Third Committee and other human rights agenda items; the DVC will involve DRL, IO, and L, and their Polish MFA counterparts.
