1. (C) MoND Undersecretary Andrius Krivas told Post September
11 that the Lithuanians are still considering their position
on authorizing ISAF to participate in drug interdiction
activity in Afghanistan (reftel). He did speculate however
that if they agree to it, Lithuanian SOF operating in the
south would take part but personnel at the
Lithuanian-operated PRT in Ghor province would not -- Krivas
said the PRT would be "too exposed" to retribution.
2. (C) U/S Krivas also said he appreciated that we are not
proposing ISAF participate in crop eradication, something
that would run counter to Lithuanian troops' current
operating policy for Afghanistan.
3. (C) U/S Krivas promised to relay our position on ISAF CN
activity to MajGen Vaiksnoras, Lithuania's probable
representative to the NATO Chiefs of Defense meeting
September 12 in Brussels.
