Donatas Vainalavicius, Second Secretary in the MFA's Arms
Control and Terrorism Prevention Division, told us on
September 11 that the GOL wants to keep Iran free of nuclear
weapons and always welcomes information relating to that
topic from the USG. He added that there is great interest in
EU circles about next steps regarding Iran. The EU, however,
has no clear or consensus position. He said the GOL favors a
strong stance on Iran. He added that his division at MFA has
good relations with private firms that market high technology
products or services, such as lasers or nuclear plant
expertise, and all relevant companies are aware of the GOL's
concern with any sort of business that could be related to
nuclear technologies vis-a-vis Iran.
