PRISONERS OF CONSCIENCE DECLARATION

Darius Staniulis, head of the MFA's Human Rights and NGOs
division, told us on June 17 that he was pleased that U.S.-EU
cooperation was able to produce the Prisoners of Conscience
Declaration. He added that he was pleased to see the USG
continue its focus on human rights, especially in the context
of the USG's disengagement from the UNHRC (ref B). He
thanked us for the copy of the press release but noted it was
unlikely the GOL would issue one of its own. He added,
though, that he would discuss that suggestion with his
colleagues in the MFA and in New York.
