Deputy Advisor to President Adamkus, Kestutis Vaskelevicius
told Post May 9 that the GOL and President Adamkus agree that
the international community should help the Burmese people by
encouraging the GOB to facilitate rather than stall
assistance. He said he would raise the issue of an
additional Presidential statement regarding allowing aid
workers into Burma as well as the possibility of financial
assistance with his colleagues in the President's office and
his former colleagues in the MFA. (Note: President Adamkus
made a statement on May 6 expressing support for the Burmese
