On December 4 we discussed reftel with Sigita Kavaliunaite
and Virginija Vinciuniene of the MFA's Foreign Trade Policy
Department. (Note: based on concerns she had raised earlier
about the Lacey Act and its applicability to Lithuania, we
had previously shared with Kavaliunaite information regarding
the Act's amendments provided by EEB/TPP/MTA.) We emphasized
to Kavaliunaite and Vinciuniene that as a member of the WTO
the United States must provide equal treatment to all our
trading partners and emphasized that the Lacey Act helps
countries with strong logging regulations and enforcement to
compete more fairly with those that do not.
