1. Post discussed reftel demarche on May 29 with Erhard Hoebaus,
Head of the Department for Nutrition and Quality Assurance in the
Ministry of Agriculture. Hoebaus, who is the Austrian POC for Codex
Alimentarius, will represent the GoA at the 31st session of the
Codex Alimentarius Commission. Dieter Jenewein from the Ministry of
Health will also attend.

2. The Austrian delegation favors the U.S. candidate, Karen
Hulebak, pointing to her expertise and skills. Austria will lobby
for Hulebak within the EU decision-making process. However, if the
majority of EU Member States were to support another candidate, we
expect the Austrian Government would back the consensus candidate.
