Acting Econ/Pol Couns discussed reftel points August 7 with
Stefan Pehringer, MFA acting director for East Asia and the
Pacific. Pehringer said the MFA officials responsible for
Burma policy were on leave until August 12. He said he would
convey to them the USG position on Burma sanctions when they
return.
