Landlord Mr. Leonardo Lopane informed USUN that the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Cameroon to the UN (CMUN) is currently in arrears of $22,740.00 (May through October 2008) in overdue monthly rental and late fees for Ambassador and Deputy Perm Rep Tidjani's home, located at 49 ¶N. Chatsworth Avenue, Larchmont, NY. He also informed USUN that tenant's lease has expired. ¶3. Mr. Lopane indicated that he has drawn these concerns to the attention of Ambassador Tidjani and the CMUN on several occasions but has not received a payment. Mr. Lopane notes that he anticipates that Ambassador Tidjani will vacate the premises in November and is concerned he will leave before resolving these arrears (Tidjani has received word of his next assignment abroad). He therefore seeks assistance from the USG for full payment. ¶4. On October 15, 2008, USUN wrote to CMUN Perm Rep Ambassador Tommo Monthe requesting prompt resolution of the matter. Calls to the CMUN revealed that the mission is aware of the debt but stated that it was awaiting funds from capital. ¶5. Department may wish to instruct AmEmbassy Yaounde to demarche the GORC MFA at an appropriately senior level, stressing the need for fiscal responsibility and the urgent resolution of these rental arrears.
