(S) USUN PolOff met with counterparts from France, UK, Canada, and Pakistan to deliver reftel demarche and seek co-sponsorship on the upcoming USG designation for sanctions of four Lashkar e-Tayyiba senior operatives in the UN 1267 (Taliban/Al-Qaeda) Sanctions Committee. Both France and Canada expected to receive instructions by January 25. UK counterpart indicated that London had already agreed to co-sponsor the request. ¶2. (S) USUN PolOff also met with Pakistani PolOff who said that Islamabad would need at least two weeks to determine whether the GOP would support or co-sponsor the request. Pakistani PolOff also indicated that, if there was flexibility on the wording of the statement of the case, he could work with USUN to edit the statement to make the request more likely to meet with support in Islamabad.
