1. (S) Per ref A instructions, USUN PolOff informed Russian
and Iraqi counterparts separately that the USG will submit
the names of Badran Turki Hishan Al Mazidih and four members
of his network for sanctions in the 1267 (Taliban/Al-Qaeda)
Committee. USUN PolOff also requested that Iraq co-sponsor
the designation request. Both parties agreed to send the
names back to their capitals for instructions.
2. (S) USUN PolOff also spoke with UK counterpart on January
15, who stated that London was willing to support the
designation requests but not to co-sponsor at this point, and
indicated that London would need more information related to
Muhammad Turki Hishan al Mazidih before considering whether
to co-sponsor.
