MOFA Human Rights Division Principal Deputy Director Takako Ito was surprised to receive reftel demarche, noting that Japanese Ambassador Fujisaki made a statement during the March 14 meeting of the Human Rights Council specifically supporting the country-specific mandates. Japan has delivered demarches in support of the mandates in the capitals of all the countries that expressed opposition on March 14, and has begun calling representatives from those countries' embassies in Tokyo in to MOFA to convey the same message, Ito added.
