1. LEAD STORIES: Top stories on Friday morning papers
included the continuing investigation into Tuesday's
collision between an MSDF vessel and a fishing boat.

2. "Path to Stability Should Be Created Quickly" The
moderate Yomiuri editorialized (2/22): "Though it was
far from perfect, a fair election was held in Pakistan.
A path to stability, however, is not yet in sight....
Pakistan is the only Muslim nation with nuclear arms.
Political instability in that country must not lead to
a loss of control of its nuclear weapons. If those
weapons were to fall into the hands of terrorists, the
international community would be exposed to a serious
threat. Disarray in Pakistan, which is on the front
line in the war on terror, could bolster the Taliban
and al-Qaeda. It is natural that the international
community is increasingly concerned about worsening
instability in Pakistan. It is necessary for the
international community to give as much support and
cooperation to that country as it can."
