1. (SBU) On October 2, EconOff delivered points contained
in ref to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Export Controls Deputy
Director Shinichi Sato and Ministry of Economy, Trade and
Industry Export Controls Deputy Director Atsushi Tanizawa.
2. (SBU) Sato expressed thanks for the non-paper. Tanizawa
noted the GOJ's continued deep concern with front companies,
and that it regularly meets with industry to encourage
vigilance. He provided EmbOff a Japanese language copy of
the Ministry's guidance for industry, which has many of the
same "red flag" points listed in the demarche. Tanizawa said
METI will redouble efforts to keep industry officials aware
of ongoing concerns regarding Iran's illicit programs.
