Embassy Tokyo Political Officer delivered reftel demarche May
21 to UN Planning and Administration Division Deputy Director
Hideki Masuo. Masuo said that Japan has no objection to the
U.S. position, referring to it as "widely praised" among
General Assembly members. The discussion would proceed much
better if housed within the 5th Committee, Masuo suggested,
saying "the situation in the 6th Committee is very difficult."
