1. (C) EconOff contacted Ministry of Foreign Affairs Koichiro
Matsumoto May 6, who noted the Government of Japan had
already received the message contained in reftel through G-8
channels. POLOFF and Deputy Financial Attache also conveyed
demarche May 7 to Ministry of Foreign Affairs International
Counterterrorism Cooperation Division official Miyako
Ishimura and May 8 to Ministry of Finance Legal Office Deputy
Division Chief Shunichi Fukushima. Ishimura noted MOFA's
Organized Crime Division would take the lead on this issue.
None of the Government of Japan officials offered any further
comment.
