1. (C) EconOff delivered demarche points (ref) to METI Export
Controls Deputy Director Atsushi Tanizawa and MOFA Nuclear
Non-Proliferation Deputy Director Nakajima. The officials
expressed the GOJ's appreciation for the prompt response to
their questions.
2. (S) Tanizawa said the METI export controls office is
already well familiar with the entities mentioned in the ref
and that these companies are listed on the METI website as
inappropriate end-users for exports from Japan. He noted
Chan Shan Institute of Science and Technology (CSIST) is
number 167 and Beijing University of Aeronautics and
Astronautics (BUAA) is number 173 on what he termed their
