1. Embassy Tokyo was unable to find any evidence that United
Nations University (UNU),or any of its affiliates, grant
official status, accreditation, or recognition to any
organization which promotes and condones or seeks the
legalization of pedophilia or has subsidiaries or member
organizations that do.
2. Methodology: Embassy Tokyo staff obtained a list of 592
UNU partner organizations listed in the university's annual
report (faxed to IO/RHS). Representatives from UNICEF and
from international NGO ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child
Pornography, and Trafficking in Children for Sexual
Purposes),reviewed the list, but did not recognize any
organizations as pedophilia promoters. Embassy Staff also
reviewed the PR material, including websites, of the 30
Japanese organizations on the list, but did not uncover any
material of concern. Embassy staff devoted 15 hours to
fulfilling this request.
