1. (SBU) The GONL plans to attend the Fourth Global
Initiative Meeting in Madrid, Spain on June 16-18. MFA
Director for Nuclear Affairs and Nonproliferation Henk Cor
van der Kwast confirmed May 30 that he will lead a Dutch
interagency team including officials from the Ministry of
Economic Affairs and the office of the National Coordinator
for Counterterrorism to participate in the meeting. Per
reftel, van der Kwast said the Dutch are willing to brief on
the importance of transnational cooperation in combating
nuclear terrorism -- including specifically Rotterdam port
security -- during the Homeland Security Models segment of
the conference. He noted that the GONL will likely update
for the Madrid meeting a similar presentation made at the
September 2007 Global Initiative meeting in London. Van der
Kwast said the Dutch interagency would meet next week to
discuss preparations for the Madrid meeting, and offered to
report back with any other presentation suggestions following
these further consultations.
