(U) Following up on reftel A & B points on Burma, POLOFF
contacted Dutch MFA Burma desk officer Maaike van der Werf to
share related statements on Burma by President Bush. After
the April 29 EU GAERC conclusions on Burma, and the May
cyclone disaster, Dutch Development Minister announced one
million euros in disaster aid to Burma. During a May 6
television interview, FM Verhagen stated that the Burmese
authorities' refusal to admit aid organizations is
"scandalous." He further indicated that the Dutch cabinet is
putting as much pressure as possible on the regime to allow
foreign aid workers in.
