STATE 563 ¶B. S/ES 200721442 UNDER SECRETARY DOBRIANSKY LETTER ¶1. Post forwarded on January 7 ref A letter for the Dutch to attend WIREC to Minister of Economic Affairs Maria van der Hoeven. Post also received and delivered on January 8 ref B invitation for van der Hoeven to serve on WIREC's Bioenergy Feedstocks Panel. ¶2. On January 10, Econoff spoke with Femke Smeets, a Policy Advisor in the Directorate General for Foreign Economic Relations of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MEA) and the GONL's working level WIREC contact. Smeets said van der Hoeven would not be able to attend WIREC because of other obligations, but the MEA would probably send Director General for Energy and Telecom Mark Frequin or Deputy Director General Pieter Boot. ¶3. Jacqueline Cramer, Minister for the Environment and Spatial Planning, was also interested in attending, Smeets added, and that her Ministry would be the appropriate Ministry to contact for funding now that the MEA was not planning to send a ministerial-level delegate. Smeets said she had informed OES PDAS Harnish of these developments in a discussion on January 9. ¶4. Smeets said MEA's Export Promotion Department (EVD) had been identifying Dutch private sector attendees for WIREC and the agenda provided in ref B would facilitate this process. ¶5.
