1. (C) On March 26 and 27, 2008 POLOFF delivered reftel points
to Dutch MFA Deputy EU Correspondent Rochus Pronk as well MFA
contacts on the Balkans, Middle East, Russia, and China. FM
Verhagen gave Dutch views on the GAERC agenda in a letter to
parliament (ref B). In a conversation on March 27, Pronk
emphasized FM Verhagen's position that he will stand firmly
against signing a Stabilization and Association Agreement
with Serbia until after Serbia cooperates with the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
Verhagen reportedly told parliament, "the more people gang up
on me the more I'll stand firm." At the same time, Verhagen
will urge more people-to-people exchange programs with the
Balkans and elsewhere.
