(C) On December 16, MFA Policy Officer Hidde Baars confirmed
the Dutch are still likely to approve 112 million euros ($153
million) over three years for Pakistan assistance, in support
of education, environment and governance initiatives
(reported in ref B). Final approval of this funding was
delayed when Development Minister Koenders asked his staff
for additional information. With the upcoming holidays,
final approval may slip to January. Concerning ref A
proposal for a donors conference in early 2009, Baars took
note of the possible invitation to FM Verhagen. He requested
confirmation of the date of any conference as well as any
details on funding plans from the United States or Pakistan.
