SUBJECT: HONDURAS DEMARCHED ON ELECTION OF US CANDIDATE FOR
INTER-AMERICAN COMMISSION OF WOMEN
Poloff delivered reftel demarche and non-paper regarding the
candidacy of Wanda K. Jones on October 28 to Jose Antonio
Lorenzana, Director of Multilateral Policy at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs. Lorenzana clarified the date and location of
the election November 10-12, Santiago, Chile, and said he
would look into the situation, as the GOH had not yet focused
on this issue. Lorenzana requested information on the total
seats vacant and who the other candidates were for each seat
and position on October 29. He stated he would send all
information to the Honduran Institute for Women who would,
along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, decide the
Honduran vote. Post will follow up with him and report any
future developments.
