SUBJECT: TEGUCIGALPA RESPONSE FOR DAY OF SOLIDARITY WITH THE CUBAN
PEOPLE

In response to reftel, post will be taking the following actions in
support of Cuban Solidarity Day:
A) We will approach the MFA to support drawing attention to the
plight of Cuban political prisoners and call for a democratic
transition in Cuba.
B) We will be hosting a press roundtable on May 21 for media from
television, radio and print sources. The roundtable will be hosted
by a former USINT employee who served as Human Rights officer and
can address these issues from experience. She will dispel myths,
especially about political prisoners and the "five spies," who
continue to find sympathy with the Honduran public.
C) If the Department has prepared an op-ed for the event, we would
hope to be able to place it in the local papers.
