POST: Embassy Tashkent ¶2. OVERVIEW OF EMBASSY TASHKENT'S PROPOSAL Embassy Tashkent wishes to use the FY-09 Direct Funding Award to supplement its popular program. For FY 09, Post is fortunate to have enough funds to cover individual lessons for all American staff and spouses. We employ two full-time teachers and one part-time teacher for Russian and Uzbek language classes and have a separate English language program for locally-employed staff. With fluctuating schedules, there are roughly 30 students enrolled at any one time in the program. In FY-07, Post used all of its $2,850 in allocated direct funding and is confident that it will spend all $930 of its allocated direct funding in FY-08. ¶5. ENHANCING INSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES ¶A. Excursions: Excursions to museums, cinemas, theaters and other culture events and venues (tea houses, cotton farms, art studios, historical places, etc.). Fees including planning and leading the excursions. 20 excursions x $50 instructor fee = $1000 ¶B. Language learning through movies: Instructors will create lists of idioms, vocabulary lists and questions for culturally-relevant movies in Russian and Uzbek. 5 movies x $50 materials development = $250 ¶C. Language immersion: A weekend language immersion at a historical or cultural site in Uzbekistan. Fees include instructor's transportation, lodging, and planning and leading the immersion. 1 immersion x $500 = $500 Total for Enhancing Instruction Opportunities: $1750 ¶6. ENHANCING SELF-ACCESS CENTER (SAC) The SAC should continue to grow with new books and films in Russian and Uzbek, and cultural and economic magazines in Russian (magazines with quality Russian are very difficult to purchase in Uzbekistan).
