1. (C) On August 12, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs
(MFA) Americas Desk Chief Ismat Fayzullaev told POLOFF that
he had spoken with officials from MFA's Commonwealth of
Independent States Department regarding the Russia-Georgia
conflict. Fayzullaev emphasized that the Government of
Uzbekistan is studying the ongoing events very carefully
because of contradictory information about this in the mass
media. After Uzbekistan has finished studying the situation,
it will provide a statement to all Embassies in Uzbekistan
including the U.S. Embassy, Fayzullaev said.

2. (SBU) Post also has received a packet of documents from
the Embassy of Georgia in Uzbekistan which include a
diplomatic note from the Georgian Embassy to Uzbekistan's
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all international
organizations accredited in Uzbekistan; official statements
from Georgia regarding the situation in South Ossetia; and a
special address from President Saakhashvili. As of August
12, Post had received no such documents from the Russian
Embassy in Uzbekistan.
