1. (U) This is an action request. Please see paragraph 3.
2. (C) On Monday, June 9, the Uzbek MFA delivered a
diplomatic note saying that Central Bank Deputy Chairman
Akmalov has accepted the U.S. invitation to come to
Washington for consultations regarding Uzbekistan's
anti-money laundering regime (reftel). He plans to travel
with at least one representative from the General
Procurator's Office. MFA's Americas Desk Chief Ismat
Fayzullaev called to ask us for information regarding dates
of travel, itinerary, and meetings. He indicated that
Akmalov is eager to travel sooner rather than later,
preferably this month.
3. (SBU) Action request: Post requests the Department's
assistance in working with the Department of Treasury to
develop a meeting schedule and agenda that we can forward to
the MFA and to the Central Bank.
