EDUCATION
(SBU) On May 3, 2008, President Karimov appointed Gairat
Bakhromovich Shoumarov, Rector of the Uzbek State University
of World Languages, as Minister of Public Education of
Uzbekistan, according to sources in the Ministry of Public
Education and the website www.uzmetronom.com. From 2000 to
2002, he served as a consultant in the Office of the
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. From 2002 until May
3, 2008, Shoumarov was the Rector of the Uzbek State
University of World Languages. Between April 3, 2000 and
2008, he was a member of the Republican Commission on
Implementation of the National Program for the Preparation of
Cadres, an educational initiative.
