¶1. (C) On June 4, AIT delivered the Taiwan TIP Report
narrative and related non-paper to Ministry of Foreign
Affairs Director General of North American Affairs Harry
Tseng. Tseng welcomed the report, and promised to
disseminate it to relevant agencies as soon as the embargo
was lifted. Tseng noted that several Taiwan agencies had
decided to issue formal "responses" to last year's Human
Rights and TIP Reports, and asked how these responses had
been received by the U.S. government. We indicated that
responses from the Taiwan side are welcomed by the U.S.
government, as part of our ongoing cooperation to combat
trafficking and to strengthen human rights protections in
Taiwan. Tseng expressed appreciation for the U.S. attitude,
and reiterated Taiwan's ongoing commitment to improving its
human rights and anti-trafficking record.
