SUBJECT: CORRECTED COPY: STOCKHOLM REQUESTS THREE INTERNS
FOR SUMMER 2009
REF: STATE 00108351
This cable corrects Stockholm 699.
Per reftel, Post requests 3 interns for Summer 2009. Post
will begin preparations in May 09 for Sweden's EU Presidency.
For Sweden's Presidency in 2001, Post received 5 regular
interns. As we anticipate a similar workload this time, we
are requesting 3 interns (as we cannot guarantee housing for
interns) to augment our limited staff:
A) Number of interns requested: 3;
B) Language Requirements: Swedish preferred but not required
for POL/ECON and CON interns;
C) Other special Post criteria: POL/ECON should be majoring
in international relations, international business or a
related field; there are no special criteria for the CON
intern;
D) Sections to be assigned: one intern POL; one intern ECON;
one intern CON;
E) Intern Coordinator: Lynn Stapleton; POL OMS, tel. ( 46
08) 783 53 21; email: stapletonlc@state.gov;
F) Summary of typical duties: POL/ECON intern will assist
in research and analysis of political and economic issues.
All interns will participate in drafting of cables and policy
memorandums. They will also attend meetings with relevant
counterparts from host government and will assist with
arrangements for official USG visitors. CON intern will
assist with special projects related to American Citizen
Services, including the Warden System and data entry;
G) Post-provided housing is limited during Summer 2009
season. Post does not have any vacant housing projected.
Post personnel are being asked for possible space in their
homes for interns. If home stays are unavailbale, Post
estimates cost for room and board at $1,000 (USD) per month.
Post will assist in providing contact names for referrals
outside the Embassy. Hotels are also available but prices
vary depending on availability and season.
All concerns should be sent to Lynn Stapleton;
H) There are no visa requirements for American citizens
residing in Sweden for less than three months.
Post would like to make the selection. Robert Silverman,
DCM, will be the person designated to make the final
selection.
