POL Counselor delivered reftel to Nils Daag, director of the
MFA's Security Policy Division, on October 15. Daag agreed
to consider positively the request for support for Afghan
elections. On October 16, Matthias Otterstedt, MFA Deputy
Director for Afghanistan, told POL Counselor that the Swedish
International Development Agency (SIDA) would likely agree to
$3 million for three years, 2009-2011, as part of a joint
effort with Denmark and Norway. We will report further
details as they develop.
