Swedish MFA Deputy Director for Afghanistan Matthias
Otterstedt and Deputy Director for Security Policy Carl
Magnus Ericsson. Both Otterstedt and Ericsson stated that
Sweden sees expansion of the ANA as essential to the security
of Afghanistan and agreed to be in touch soon with MFA's
response to the request for funding. Otterstedt asked for
more specifics on the proposed trust fund and how it would be
managed, noting that Swedish budgeting decisions could be
affected by these issues. Action request: When available,
Post seeks Department guidance on the mechanics of the
proposed trust fund.
