On September 20, apolitical Stockholm business daily "Dagens
Industri" ran an editorial titled "U.S. Salvage Plan is Basically
Positive."
"Seldom have the world's financial markets been this jerky. However,
one of the worst weeks that the (world's) financial system has
experienced ended in some state of optimism and recovery after
interventions and statements about support measures by the U.S.
government and other authorities....
"It is not the companies and capitalists of the financial crisis
that should be saved, but rather a continued rise in standards.
Crises must be prevented by a wise policy of balance, but those that
occur must be dealt with quickly and resolutely....
"Therefore there is plenty of reason to positively regard the
American emergency action in defense of the world economy."
