RESPONSES TO THE GEORGIA CRISIS, AS OF COB AUGUST 22
We will update periodically the list of Swedish responses to
the crisis in Georgia:
Observer Commitments
--------------
-- 2-3 military monitoring observers (MMOS) to OSCE's mission
(possible increase to 10).
-- 2 observers in EU's re-hated Border Support Team. Increase
by 2-3 when Border Team is authorized staff increase to
15-20.
-- 10 civilian and police experts on hand to assist in the
mission of any international group, e.g. EU or OSCE. Experts
are trained in human rights, humanitarian relief or policing.
-- 16 portable trailers for MMO living quarters.
Humanitarian Aid
--------------
-- $740,000 to the ICRC's initial appeal to Georgia.
-- $25,000 in telecommunications equipment to UNICEF
-- blankets, respirators and sleeping bags and a
government-owned DC8 (left on August 19) to the Georgian
government.
