THE PEOPLE OF BURMA AFTER CYCLONE NARGIS

(U) The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs announced on May
8 that the Swedish government is prepared to supply
humanitarian support to Burma via the Swedish International
Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The amount of aid
Sweden will provide has yet to be determined. Minister for
International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson
commented that Sweden has offered logistical support and
water purification systems to the UN Office for the
Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. She added that it is
important that the international community act quickly and in
a coordinated manner to assist the people of Burma. Post
will report any additional information septel.
