Ruthstrom-Ruin. Ruthstrom-Ruin welcomed the information,
noted that al-Shabaab is present in Sweden and that persons
connected to it had recently been arrested on terrorism
finance charges (ref B). She noted also that there are
different strains within al-Shabaab and queried why the U.S.
had chosen to designate nationally, rather than through the
UN. She said Sweden has no plans to designate al-Shabaab,
and that there is a public debate on its role. She said
Sweden is continuing an investigation of al-Shabaab's
activities and connections.
